Recruiting: Jones Looks Good As A Fullback

Fullback/running back Zeke Jones of Springfield, La., has been a busy guy this summer. So far he has been to the Nike Combine in Texas and camps at Louisiana Tech and Southeastern Louisiana. In July he visit Louisiana-Lafayette on the 8th and then make a trip to Southern Miss on the 23rd.

"I've been working out and going to those camps so I've stayed busy," said the 5-11, 235-pounder. "I felt I've done real good at the camps. We did one-on-one with the running backs and the linebackers at Southeastern and Louisiana Tech and I thought I did really good. At the Nike we did 225-pound bench reps and I did 17. I also ran my best 40 at Southeastern with a 4.63."

Jones is strong with a 320-pound bench press and a 475-pound squat.

I asked Jones if he is a true fullback and he got defensive. "I'm a fullback and running back," said Jones.

When told that there is nothing wrong with an old school fullback that blows up defenders going through the line of scrimmage and that some of us old folks like traditional fullbacks he lightened up a little. "I can do that too, that's me."

When I asked him how recruiting has been going he gave three schools close to home in Southern Miss, ULL, and Louisiana Tech. "Those are the schools I'm really checking out and seeing what their program is all about," he added. "I have heard from other schools, and that includes Oklahoma State but I haven't heard much from them lately."

Jones has good numbers and was a first team All-State Class 2A player as a junior with 195 carries for 1,342 yards and 16 touchdowns. Pretty good numbers for an "old school" fullback.
