Recruiting: Eddie Brown Is Big 12 Bound

Defensive lineman Eddie Brown of Waller, Texas is a special player with 6-2, 265-pound size and sub-4.6 speed in the 40. We explained in an earlier report how Brown, who also plays running back and fullback in football, plays baseball and was even used as a pinch runner as he was one of the Waller team leaders in stolen bases. It sure looks like Brown is going to wind up somewhere in the Big 12.

"I'd say Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Nebraska are among my favorite schools, along with the ones I visited," said Brown recently after making visits to SMU and Baylor. When asked if his list of schools was Big 12 heavy he simply replied, "yes sir." He went on further to say, "I'm going to start narrowing my list down soon (by the middle of July)."

He did go check out a couple of schools in June. "Coach Phillips (Waller High School coach) took me to SMU and Baylor," said Brown of a couple of unofficial visits he took this summer. "SMU offered after I was there and it was pretty good. I liked Baylor and they have offered. I got to talk with the head coach (Guy Morris) and the defensive line coach and that went good."

Other than that Brown said he has been working this summer at Hempstead High School and at Popeye's Chicken. He said two weeks ago he got back to working out strong again to get ready for the upcoming season.

That summer job at Popeye's has to be a dream job for a high school defensive lineman. "Give me some of those spicy chicken strips, red beans and rice, and Mardi Gras cheesecake and I've got it made, you know what I mean," said Brown.

Yes, we've been to Popeye's and we know what he means.
