Recruiting: Richards Close To Decision

Just when you thought it was time for practice to start and recruiting to take a back seat as the season prepares to kick off it appears that Oklahoma State may enter the 2007 preseason camp with a record 17 verbal commitments for the 2008 recruiting class. Standout wide receiver Adrian Richards of Mesquite, Texas said he is close to committing to Oklahoma State.

The 6-4, 190-pound speedster that runs a 4.3 in the 40-yard dash is looking at one more step.

"I'm not committed right now," said Richards. "I am close to committing. I want to talk to my high school head coach (Steve Halpin) one more time to explore any other options he thinks are out there for me."

Richards has a pretty high standing among Texas recruits and has been pretty well sought after over the spring and summer. Oklahoma State coaches saw Richards in person at their one-day camp in Stillwater in June and apparently were impressed as they offered shortly after that camp.

As a junior Richards caught 50 passes for 704 yards and 10 touchdowns. He was named first team all-district and junior all-state. Richards is also a top wide receiver prospect in Texas Football Magazine. He also competes in track and was on the Mesquite 4x100 relay team. He has a 205-pound bench, 355 squat max, and can power clean 200 pounds.

Minnesota, Wisconsin, Oregon, and Boise State are among the other schools that have offered and recruited him the most aggressive. However, he seems really sold on the Cowboys.

"I really feel good about it," added Richards. "Oklahoma State just seems like the right fit for me."

Richards told Go Pokes that he plans to meet on Thursday with Coach Halpin. Practice for the Mesquite Skeeters begins next week, and Richards seems to want to have this settled going into his senior season.
