Recruiting: Staley Heading To OSU?

Guthrie (Okla.) High School standout Kye Staley has scheduled a noon announcement Tuesday in the high school library at which time he is expected to announce his college destination. Staley said he wasn't going to make the announcement into a big show, but wants to share the news with his friends, teammates, coaches and family. Staley visited with GoPokes.com on Monday, and here are his thoughts.

There are signs that point to Staley committing to Oklahoma State, and as we've reported several times on GoPokes.com we felt he would stay in state. In fact, we do expect that he will announce Tuesday that he is commiting to OSU.

Asked on Monday afternoon where he was going Staley, speaking from the Guthrie football coaches office, said, "Everybody in here knows where I'm going."

Staley has received plenty of recruiting attention and offers from the likes of Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Kansas State, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Kansas and Texas Tech, to name a few.

The 6-0, 200-pound Staley is rated the top player in Oklahoma by SuperPrep Magazine. He was also rated the number three prospect in the Midlands region by SuperPrep and a preseason SuperPrep All-American. This summer he was one of the first players invited to participate in the ESPNU High School All-American Game this January in Orlando, Fla.

Staley plays quarterback for Guthrie, as well as safety on defense, but it is expected that he will play running back or safety in college. Staley has said he prefers to start his college career as a running back.

Last season as a junior he completed 54-of-133 passes for 1,008 yards with 16 touchdowns and only four interceptions. He also ran for 1,750 yards and 21 touchdowns on 200 carries. That's 37 total touchdowns!

The Blue Jays finished with a 10-3 record under his leadership last season. His senior year got off to a good start in a scrimmage quadrangular last week, involving defending Class 4A champion Bishop McGuinness, Staley had a touchdown pass, touchdown run, and also caught a touchdown pass.

He has 4.5 speed in the 40-yard dash and is very explosive with a bench press of more than 250 pounds and a 35-inch vertical jump.
