Recruiting: Owens Has Busy Saturday

Standout wide receiver Jameel Owens of Muskogee, Okla., did not slow down Saturday after catching 13 passes for 183 yards in the Roughers win over Norman North on Friday night. The 6-4, 215-pound speedy Owens showed some speed taking in the OU-Miami game in Norman on Saturday and then traveling to Stillwater for Oklahoma State's victory over Florida Atlantic.

Owens stayed in Stillwater overnight Saturday with good friend and current Cowboy and former Muskogee teammate Derek Burton.

Owens could not be reached Sunday night as Muskogee head coach Matt Hennesy had his team in this afternoon to go over last week's video and then eat dinner as a team and go over the scouting report and watch video on Friday's opponent Tulsa Union.

"No (he doesn't slow down).Hhe's always doing something," said Owens' mother on Sunday evening.

Asked where she think he is in the recruiting process, she replied, "He's just checking schools out still. I know he likes both Oklahoma and Oklahoma State and I know he is close to Derek (Burton)."

She added that she thinks her son is still several months away from making any kind of decision and will take all of his visits when he has the time for the official trips to schools. OSU and OU are not alone as Arkansas, LSU, Tennessee, Florida, Florida State, South Carolina, Notre Dame and USC are all in the picture.

"I am giving him advice and telling him what I think, but the final decision will be his," said mom.

Told good luck for the Roughers game this week against top ranked Tulsa Union, she said, 'Thank you, we'll need it against those boys.'"

Note: Muskogee quarterback Trae Cook, who passed for 257 yards and two touchdowns, was with Owens for his unofficial visit to OSU's game on Saturday. The 6-3, 190-pound Cook is also a good athlete. Muskogee defensive end Stacy McGee, also being recruited by OSU, was not in Stillwater. The only game he made on Saturday was with his family at OU after staying in Norman following Friday night's game with Norman North.
