Cowboy Report: Health of the Running Game

Following an energetic two-hour practice Tuesday, head coach Mike Gundy had little to say about the quarterback situation other than there had been no change. Gundy was more excited, even eager, to talk about the running back situation. He said that Julius Crosslin is fit and practiced extensivel, and that Dantrell Savage practiced for the second day in a row.

"We're going to take him with us (to Troy)," said Gundy. "We hope he keeps improving and feels good on Friday and can help us in the game."

Savage has to be highly motivated to play. This is his personal home game for his senior season. Savage is from nearby Columbus, Ga., and will no doubt have a lot of family and friends in Movie Gallery Stadium on Friday.

He also signed with Troy out of high school before going to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and then on to Oklahoma State. This is an important game for Savage. Gundy and the medical staff will closely watch Savage as his importance is needed Friday, but also he will be needed through the rest of the season. It's a wait-and-see situation.

Tuesday was Wednesday for the Cowboy football team and Wednesday is the final prep Thursday workout in a normal game week. The Cowboys are scheduled to fly out of Stillwater at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, that is the real Thursday, which will feel like Friday for the team.

New Black Shirt
Linebacker Patrick Lavine has been added to the roster of black shirts on defense. Lavine led the Cowboy defenders in tackles on Saturday with 10 total stops and seven unassisted. He also had a half a tackle for loss, a pass broken up, and a quarerback hurry.

Lavine joins fellow linebackers Donovan Woods and Chris Collins. defensive ends Marque Fountain and Nate Peterson, corners Jacob Lacey and Martel Van Zant, and safety Ricky Price with black shirts.

Game Day Weather-Possible Storms
A small number of Oklahoma State fans, only about 200 minus player's families, are expected to be in Troy for the game. Most will watch via the ESPN2 telecast. The weather calls for 40 percent scattered thunderstorms with a high of 84 and a low of 68. Game time temperature is expected to be 80.
