How's This For Balance?

It is nearly incredible to imagine but after 11 regular season games the Oklahoma State offense is not only as successful as one could hope for, but also the most balanced offense in the history of college football. Overall, the Cowboy offense is averaging 500.9 yards a game. Break that down and the offense is averaging 250.5 yards per game rushing and 250.5 yards per game passing.

In Big 12 Conference play the numbers are greater and vary, but not much. The Oklahoma State offense is averaging 534.3 yards total with 273.4 yards on the ground per game and 260.9 yards per contest through the air.

"I have to give a lot of credit to my teammates -- offensive line, backs, and receivers -- that make it happen," said trigger man Zac Robinson, who broke the OSU single season total offense record Saturday night in the 45-14 win over Baylor.

Robinson's 346 yards of total offense (144 yards rushing and 202 yards passing) took his season total to 3,122 yards, bettering the mark of 3,073 yards set by current Chicago White Sox third baseman and former OSU quarterback Josh Fields in 2002.

"I definitely felt real good throwing the ball all night," said Robinson. "Guys were getting open and making plays. My arm felt good all night."

The offense, as it has often done this season under offensive coordinator Larry Fedora, kept the pressure on Baylor all night. Head coach Mike Gundy knows he has a real weapon in the high powered and extremely balanced unit and the quarterback setting records with it.

"That's a tribute to the offense, and the system gives him an opportunity to be in space and he competes very hard," said Gundy of Robinson and the offense. "We've had threats on the perimeter and our running backs have done a nice job and all that allows him to make some plays. Anytime you break a record like that it is a tribute to the entire offense and I thought our offensive line played tonight the best they've played."

One thing is certain, defenses and the Cowboys have two left to play in Oklahoma and the bowl opponent. Both will have a very difficult time trying to decide just what to gear up to stop, the run or the pass.
