Recruiting: Cowboys Get Big-Hitting Safety

Safety Lucien Antoine of Fort Scott (Kans.) Community College earned the reputation of being a big hitter in earning All-Jayhawk Conference honors, and this weekend the Coral Springs, Fla., native made an official visit to Stillwater, and along with two other Jayhawk Conference rivals from Butler County C.C. committed to the Cowboys.

"I know those guys (Beau Johnson and Maurice Gray)," said Antoine. "One (Johnson) is one of the top running backs in the conference and the other (Gray) is the top cornerback in the conference. Yeah, I'm looking forward to playing on the same team with those guys."

I would imagine they would say the same thing, especially Johnson, who has to know about Antoine as a tackler. The 6-2, 210- pound safety had 112 total tackles this season with 72 of those unassisted. He also had 3 tackles for loss, 3 interceptions, 2 fumbles caused, and a blocked kick.

Antoine said he was offered scholarships by Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisville, Purdue, and Kansas State was talking to him. He said there were others schools involved too. So, why did he make the commitment to Oklahoma State?

"The visit went really good," he said. "My host was Andre Sexton and he is a good guy. Mainly the coaches, they are really nice and the education. The education I can get there is awesome."

Antoine's major is really kind of awesome as he said he plans to get his degree in accounting.

As for football, Antoine said he will play safety, but he is not sure whether he will start out at the strong safety position or the free safety. He won't have to wait long to find out as he will be a January enrollee and will be part of the off-season program and spring football.
