Recruiting: Coffeyville Lineman Commits

We felt bad this morning because we woke up Chris Donaldson, defensive tackle from Coffeyville (Kans.) C.C. Donaldson took the wake up call well and confirmed that he did indeed gave a commitment to Oklahoma State a couple nights ago. The 6-3, 280-pounder had 36 total tackles, 9 tackles for loss, one sack, one fumble caused, and one interception this past season.

"I sat down and talked to my parents and to my high school coaches," said Donaldson, originally from Anderson, S.C. "They all know me well and know what is best for me and where I would really be happy.

"After listening and talking to them I knew that I needed to go to Oklahoma State. I want to play against the best competition and that gives me the chance in the Big 12 at Oklahoma State."

Donaldson said he had a good visit to Oklahoma State on the first weekend in December and he was impressed with what he saw. However, when asked if the fact the Cowboys need help at defensive tackle was a factor in his decision he gave a very positive answer that Oklahoma State coaches and fans will appreciate.

"No, that really wasn't a factor," he said. "I believe that I could go anywhere and be a starter. Wherever I ended up I was going to play. That really was never a factor for me in my decision."

Donaldson is in finals week at Coffeyville and is on schedule for December graduation and will be able to transfer to Oklahoma State for the spring semester.

Another huge bonus for Donaldson and Oklahoma State is that he redshirted his first season at Coffeyville and has only played one season. He has three seasons to play at Oklahoma State, a rarity for a junior college transfer especially a defensive tackle.
