Recruiting: Greer Likes What He Sees At OSU

A new name among the trio of official visitors this weekend to Oklahoma State was linebacker Steve Greer of Solon, Ohio. The 6-2, 219-pound Greer is a middle or inside linebacker prospect who had a very strong senior campaign with 150 total tackles and a couple of interceptions and fumble recoveries. He has excellent fundamentals and is a very aggressive player.

"Coach Beck (Tim Beckman) called me back during the season and then called me a call back a couple of weeks ago to tell me they where looking at bringing in more defensive players including linebackers to Oklahoma State," said Greer, who was talking between connecting flights on his way home from Chicago's O'Hare International Airport. "He called me back after he'd seen the tape of my entire season and said he wanted me to come in for a visit."

Greer's stock has been rising as not only Oklahoma State has jumped in but also North Carolina and Maryland. Butch Davis, the head coach at North Carolina, has connections in Ohio having coached the Cleveland Browns.

"I'm supposed to visit North Carolina next week and the coach from Maryland is calling tomorrow to tell me if they are bringing me in for a visit," explained Greer.

The Ohio product has no reservations about going out of state, or far from home to college. He said his OSU visit went really well.

"It was awesome," said Greer of the weekend visit. "Shane Jarka showed me around as my host player. Oklahoma State had all three of the things that I am looking for in a college. The players and coaches are good people and they were great to hang out with. They have the facilities, and with everything they are building, their facilities are going to be second to none. Then the academic area and I was very impressed with what I saw there. I definitely could wind up going to Oklahoma State."

Junior college All-American linebacker J.R. Bryant of Garden City (Kan.) C.C. making up his mind this week between OSU, OU and Texas Tech. Greer is also now part of the Cowboys' equation at finding linebacker help.
