Recruiting: Lawrence First QB Offered By OSU

Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy went on record on Signing Day saying that he and his staff would go after a quarterback in the 2009 class after not signing a quarterback in the two most recent classes. By picking up former pro baseball pitcher Brandon Weeden it helped the Cowboys to be able to go two classes without a QB. For 2009 the Cowboys have offered Cameron Lawrence of Senatobia, Miss.

The 6-2, 205-pound Lawrence ran for more than 1,300 yards and passed for 900 yards last season for Magnolia Heights High School outside Memphis, Tenn. He runs a 4.6 in the 40-yard dash and has a 265-pound bench press and a max of 425 pounds on the squat.

"I feel honored by the offer from Oklahoma State, and all the schools that have offered," said Lawrence, who confirmed he has also been offered by Mississippi State and Duke.

"I'm looking for a system on offense that I like and also the possibility of playing pretty soon in college," he added in what criteria he will use to determine where he go to college. "I have also heard from Alabama, LSU, Arkansas, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest. Those are the main ones."

He said he is looking to major in either Aviation or Veterinary Medicine. Lawrence said he did not grow up with a favorite school and neither did his parents. His father was in the Air Force and was stationed in Altus, Okla., when Cameron was born. That is not a factor except that Cameron is open to moving.

"Leaving home and going away is not as big a factor," said Lawrence. "I feel like I could go a ways from home because we moved around some."

Cameron added that he will most rely on his parents to help him with the decision when it comes time to decide on a school. In the meantime, Cameron says he will continue checking out the schools and spend his spring running track.

This will also get your attention, Cameron said the track team is small and he competes in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays, 100 meters, 100-meter hurdles, and 300-meter hurdles. That is a bunch of events and perfect for a mobile quarterback.
