Cowboys To Face Red Raiders In Big 12 Tourney

The Oklahoma State Cowboys will be the ninth seed and open the Big 12 Tournament on Thursday morning against Texas Tech after a 62-57 loss to ninth-ranked Texas in Sunday's regular season finale. The Cowboys led midway through the second half but scored just 14 points over the final 10 minutes of the game as the Longhorns rallied for the victory at the Erwin Center in Austin.

The Cowboys, 16-14, tied for seventh place with Nebraska and Texas Tech (all finished with 7-9 Big 12 records) but received the ninth seed in the postseason tournament. In the Big 12's tie-breaking procedures, Nebraska will be the seventh seed and Texas Tech the eighth seed in the tournament, which begins Thursday at the Sprint Center in Kansas City.

The Cowboys and Red Raiders will play the first game of the postseason tournament at 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

The winner of Thursday's first-round game will face Texas, which earned the No. 1 seed in the tournament with Sunday's victory, in a quarterfinal matchup Friday. The Longhorns, 26-5, tied for first place in the Big 12 with Kansas (both were 13-3), but Texas earns the No. 1 seed in the postseason tournament by virtue of its win over KU during the season.

Texas guard A.J. Augustin led all scorers with 20 points, while Longhorn sophomore Damion James added 13 points and a career-high 18 points.

Guards Byron Eaton and Terrel Harris each scored 12 points to lead the Cowboys. Obi Muonelo added 11 points, while Marcus Dove finished with 9 points and 13 rebounds.
