Kingsbury's helmet stolen, recovered

The Texas Tech quarterback's helmet was found in a Lubbock residence, putting a Texas man behind bars.

quarterback Kliff Kingsbury's helmet has been recovered, police said Thursday.

The helmet was found about 10 p.m. Wednesday at a residence in the 3700 block of 31st Street, Texas Tech police Capt. Gordon Hoffman said.

Police received tips from two people who had information on the location of the helmet and who was in possession of it, Hoffman said.

Officers obtained a search warrant and found the helmet at the house. Police arrested a 20-year-old Lubbock man and charged him with misdemeanor theft.

The man, who is not a Tech student, was free Thursday on $1,000 bond.

The helmet was returned to the Tech athletic department.
