Recruiting: Mitchell-Thornton Has Been Busy

Oklahoma State is hoping to continue a recent recruiting trend and maybe even expand some with recruiting in Georgia. New defensive line coach Glenn Spencer has plenty of contacts and is currently recruiting linebacker Nigel Mitchell-Thornton of Stone Mountain (Stephenson), Ga.

"Recruiting has been going great and I've been visiting a lot of colleges just to get used to the college environment," said a very personable Mitchell-Thornton. "I've heard a lot from Tennessee, Oklahoma State and Clemson.

"I know with Oklahoma State they have sent me literature on the stadium and all the new facilities and I want to find out as much as I can about it all."

The 6-2, 210-pound outside linebacker prospect has near 4.5 speed in the 40, and this spring he has been running track, specifically competing in the 100 and 300 hurdles and the 4X100 relay. When he hasn't been running on the weekend he has been catching spring games having attended games at Auburn, Georgia Tech, and Florida.

"I have scholarship offers from Oklahoma State," said Mitchell-Thornton. "I actually got that in the mail just a few days ago. I have offers from Georgia Tech, Maryland, Wake Forest, Central Florida, North Carolina State, Stanford, Miami of Ohio, Duke, Mississippi State, and Marshall."

He is an outstanding student to go along with being a good player. On the field he had 102 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, and six sacks last season. In the classroom, he is in the advanced placement curriculum and carries a 3.3 GPA with the hope of a 3.8 this semester.

"I'm looking to major in business and I want to get my executive MBA," he said adding the emphasis on graduate school.

Nigel Mitchell-Thornton is more than just a good linebacker prospect. This is the model student-athlete every coach and academic advisor is dreaming of.
