Hoops: Is OSU Still In Proby's Future?

Dee Proby, the 6-foot-9, 250-pound post player who signed with Oklahoma State last November, worked out Tuesday for new Cowboy assistant coach Steve Middleton. Did Middleton like what he saw on his trip to Angelina College in Lufkin, Texas? Does Proby still have a scholarship? GoPokes.com visited with Proby to get the answers to these questions, and find out what the future holds for him.

Proby said that Middleton, who will be an assistant on new Cowboy head coach Travis Ford's staff, made the trip to Angelina College to watch him play a 3-on-3 pickup game.

"Things didn't really go like I expected or wanted them to," Proby said. "He said (after watching me) that he was disappointed in how I played. But who goes on a 3-on-3 game? We should have been playing 5-on-5 like a real game.

"He said he was disappointed and he said that I was no beast. He was saying that I probably don't fit for them, and that was real disappointing. He said he was going to talk to the head coach and tell him what he saw."

Proby, who averaged 11.4 points and 4.3 rebounds this past season for his Angelina team which finished 13-18, said he hopes to visit with Travis Ford so that he can make a decision about his future.

"I guess I'm going to have to explore my options," Proby said. "Really, I'm just going to have to talk to the head coach and see what he has to say. (Middleton) said that he would be calling me. I'm just waiting for him to call me. I hope it's today.

"If (Ford) has his doubts about me too, then I'm going to have to explore my options. If they don't want me, then I'm going to ask for my release and look elsewhere. I've got other colleges that would love to have me play for them."
