Recruiting: Allen Heads Back To Metroplex

For the second weekend in a row quarterback Drew Allen of San Antonio (Alamo Heights), Texas, is heading to the DFW Metroplex to show off his skills. Last week the 6-5, 205-pound Allen was the top quarterback at the Scout Combine held at the Dallas Cowboys Valley Ranch facility. This week he is heading to Fort Worth for the Elite 11 Quarterback Camp in Texas.

"He was selected for that," said his father who spoke to us since Drew was out on a date. "He did pretty good last week at the Scout Combine and Scout has been good to him. A lot of people there we're acting like where did this guy come from, but the Scout people knew about him.

"Drew was happy with what he did at the combine and I think some people were surprised with how big he is and how well he throws the ball. We flew up to Dallas last week, but we are going to drive up there tomorrow. Baylor has been asking him to come and check them out, so we are going to stop in Waco on the way."

As a junior Allen threw for an attention getting 2,589 yards and 28 touchdowns while adding another 254 yards on the ground with five touchdowns rushing. He has already been to junior days at Auburn, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and SMU. In addition to those schools Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Purdue, Wake Forest, Iowa and Baylor have shown interest.

"He gets letters every day and he calls coaches," added Mr. Allen. When asked if he thought Drew had any interest in going out of state he replied, "Yes, he wants to go play big time football. So yes, he is interested in a lot of schools out of state. He is interested in both Oklahoma and Oklahoma State."

Allen is easily one of the top prospects in the San Antonio area. In the past that area was recruited by OSU passing game coordinator and tight ends coach Doug Meacham, but it is now handled by new defensive line coach Glenn Spencer.

We will try to hook up with Allen to get his thoughts on how his recruiting is going.
