Recruiting: Tennessee QB Gets More Attention

Quarterback Chris Campbell of Memphis (Briarcrest Christian), Tenn., is starting to get some very solid props from coaches that know quarterbacks. Southen Miss head coach Larry Fedora, the former Oklahoma State offensive coordinator, likes what he sees in the 6-4, 195-pound Campbell. USM made an offer earlier this spring.

"Yes, Southern Miss has offered and they are a very good offensive team," said Campbell. "Middle Tennessee has offered and (so has) Arkansas State. Boise State, Texas Tech, Vanderbilt and some other schools in the SEC, Big 12, and Conference USA are calling and telling me they are evaluating me."

So would he go to the Big 12?"Yes sir, I love the Big 12 and I could see myself playing in that conference," Campbell said.

Campbell is a dual threat quarterback that had an excellent run in the Elite 11 quarterback camp in Alabama making it to the final group. He is athletic and shows up well running the ball with his 4.67 speed. He really has some escapability. He also has a good arm and passed for more than 1,100 yards last season despite operating out of a run-oriented offense. He thinks he threw for 12 touchdowns, but he is not a stat keeper, which is another admirable trait in a quarterback.

Briarcrest just finished spring football and Campbell likes what they got done with a new coach.

"We just finished up," he said. "I think we looked good with the new offense Coach Wright (he came from nearby White Station High School) put in. He runs a passing offense out of the I-formation with a lot of ace. There is a lot of play action and misdirection to it."

Campbell is a good student that would like to major in pre-med, sports medicine or physical therapy. He and his family are now in the midst of deciding what they will do this summer.

"We are sitting down and trying to decide which camps to go to and when we will close it down," said Campbell.

He is a very polite, intelligent player that on video looks like what you want in a spread offense where you'd like to see the quarterback be a threat with his legs. He has a good arm and makes good decisions. Now the important decision is will he camp the direction of Oklahoma State this summer.
