Recruiting: Moore Down To OSU, Ole Miss

It certainly appears that Clayton Moore of Louisville, Miss., is Oklahoma State's top choice at quarterback, and the Cowboys are only taking one in the smallish size recruiting class they have coming up in 2009. It's a good thing that the Cowboys know that Moore feels almost the same way about them.

"It's down to two schools," said Clayton Moore on Monday night from his home where he admits he is kicking back and taking it easy after some heavy duty traveling to check out schools. "It's basically down to Ole Miss and Oklahoma State, and I will get around to making a decision soon."

Moore, who has seen his recruiting light go big time bright this spring and summer with what he says are now "18 to 19 scholarship offers," recently checked out Stillwater in person and said since then he has been to Ole Miss, Kentucky, Tennessee, Florida, Florida State, and Oregon.

Moore, who is 6-2, 205 and has good speed, led his team to the Class 3A state title last season throwing for 3,046 yards and running for another 840 yards. He accounted for a combined 40 touchdowns and only threw 13 interceptions. Louisville finished 12-3.

I asked Moore if he has had conversations with his two top schools to confirm that he is their top choice or close.

"Yes, we've talked about that, but there are some things that have been said that I really can't repeat because I wouldn't want to say anything that might change someone else's mind about going to those schools," explained Moore.

"I know they both like me. I know Oklahoma State is only taking one quarterback in this class and I know that Ole Miss is taking two because they just lost a backup that is going pro in baseball, so they only have two scholarship quarterbacks.

"Ole Miss is close to home," said Moore in discussing his top two. "They play in the SEC, and they have a great coaching staff down there. That is about all I can think of.

"Oklahoma State gives me a chance to play early," added Moore. "They have really nice facilities and a very likeable coaching staff. Again, I know there are lots of things about each school but that is what I can think of right now."

Moore did not say exactly when he will make his decision, but just implied that it is coming in the near rather than distant future. Right now, he just relaxing a little after pairing it down to two.
