Recruiting: Dent Working Hard This Summer

One of my favorite prospects in this class of recruits to talk with is South Grand Prairie High School defensive lineman Randall Dent. The 6-5, 255-pound Dent is well spoken and has a great sense of humor.

"Everything is going good," said Randall Dent when asked about his summer and the recruiting going on. "I'm just trying to get to know everybody and get to know all the schools and then work hard and be ready for this senior season coming up."

I asked him if he has changed any physically or if he has exploded on the weights at all this summer.

"I'm actually down as I have got my weight back down to 255 pounds," said Dent, who had climbed a little in the spring. I accused him of working on that "girlish" figure to stay at defensive end and not get moved inside with the big uglies.

"I'm not saying that," he laughed. "I do like lining up outside and rushing the passer in a track stance and using my speed."

Dent has done a lot of that as last season he had 50 tackles with 10 tackles for loss, five sacks, and a lot of havoc caused for opponents. His explosion numbers are explosive with a 320-bench press, 470-pound squat, and a 29-inch vertical jump. Dent is extremely athletic for a big defensive end.

"I'm up to 10 offers with Oklahoma State, Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado, Minnesota, Oregon, Arizona, Texas Tech, Wake Forest, and UCF," he said. "I am going to a camp at LSU in July and that is the only one I'm going to. Other than that I'm just working toward next season. We open on Thursday, Aug. 28, in our stadium, the Gopher-Warrior Bowl, against Richardson Berkner."

That's another thing I like about the defensive end that also has a 3.3 GPA. He keeps his eye on the target and in this case that is Richardson Berkner's Ram on Aug. 28.
