Recruiting: Mitchell-Thornton Has Options

Linebacker Nigel Mitchell-Thornton of Stone Mountain (Stephenson), Ga., is an absolutely great prospect to visit with. As talented as he is on the field, off the field Mitchell-Thornton is a standout in the classroom with a 3.6 GPA and a good score on the SAT.

As a result of his combined talents Mitchell-Thornton has plenty of interest and he has made some opinions on top schools as the summer moves toward a close and the 6-2, 220-pound linebacker gets ready to start his senior season.

"I've been to a lot of different camps this summer," said Mitchell-Thornton. "They are mainly SEC camps like Alabama, Florida, and Tennessee. Tennessee was really a good camp and Alabama was good. I would say right now my interest in Tennessee is high. I like the school and I know a lot about it.

"y official visits are going to be important to places like Oklahoma State. My interest in OSU is medium to high, but I haven't seen their campus and that is where the official visit comes in. It is the same with Stanford, medium to high. They have a great school but I need to see it."

Mitchell-Thornton also rated Mississippi State as medium to high and says he knows plenty about the Bulldogs considering them a local school. He called his interest in Georgia Tech and North Carolina as medium. He basically said he had little interest in Auburn, Duke, and Marshall. All three schools had been schools of interest to him at some point.

Mitchell-Thornton admitted that he has worked hard on his strength this summer and is up to 230 pounds, but his plan is to come back down and play this season at 220 pounds. He said he is still a mid 4.6 guy in the forty. He also knows exactly what he is looking for academically and it is a good match for the Cowboys.

"I want to major in busness and I want to get my MBA," said Mitchell-Thornton.

Oklahoma State has the prestigious Spears School of Business.

The Georgia product says he feels pretty certain that he will go through the season and then take those official visits he spoke of before he will come to a decision. His stats prove how much he adds to a defense as he had 102 total tackles, 12 tackles for losses, and six sacks as a junior.
