Recruiting: OSU Trying To Get In On Bass

We found defensive tackle Vinson Bass of Ellenwood (Cedar Grove), Ga., a little confused on recruiting.

"You know as much as I do right now," said Vinson Bass. "Right now it is really Oklahoma, University of Oklahoma. Coach (Jackie) Shipp, the coach that would coach me if I went there is recruiting me."

Bass may be a little frustrated because the 6-3, 285-pound honorable mention All-State player from a year ago has no offers from the in-state schools Georgia and Georgia Tech. He does have offers from Alabama, Clemson, Mississippi, Mississippi State and OU.

Oklahoma State reportedly is interested in Bass. Playing is not an issue as Bass had 97 total tackles last season. He has a 415-pound bench press and a very impressive 520-pound squat. He is immensely talented. The problem is academics with a 2.1 GPA and a unreported test score.

"I'm quick for my size," said Bass of his physical skills. "I'm skilled. I play real aggressive and never stop going. I'm trying to improve on everything. There's nothing that I can say I'm perfect at. I definitely want to get faster and improve my footwork."

Bass seems to be open to schools that are interested in him, but the academic issues are tough. He will need to get eligible likely to draw attention from the schools in Georgia and probably any others.
