Report: Cormier Withdraws From Olympics

Former Oklahoma State Cowboy wrestler Daniel Cormier has officially withdrawn from the 96-kilogram weight class in the Beijing Olympic Games, USA Wrestling was reporting Wednesday night. Cormier was hospitalized after the weigh-in because of dehydration and kidney problems. He was to have started the tournament with his first match this evening, American time.

Earlier in the day, Oklahoma State wrestling coach John Smith confirmed to OSU wrestling SID Gavin Lang that Cormier had been hospitalized.

Smith is in Beijing to watch both Cormier and Steve Mocco represent the United States in the Olympic Games. Both Cormier and Mocco, in the 120-kilogram weight class, were scheduled to begin wrestling this evening.

Cormier would have been wrestling in his second Olympic Games having advanced to the semifinals and the bronze-medal match in Athens in 2004.
