Recruiting: DT Gets Oklahoma State Offer

Defensive tackle Justin Washington of Houston (Cypress Woods), Texas, has received his fourth scholarship offer. "Coach (Joe) DeForest (of Oklahoma State) told me that they liked the way I played and that they wanted me to be a Cowboy," said Washington.

Washington received that scholarship offer, his fourth, just prior to a successful Friday night against Cy Ridge, a game in which he added to his numbers this season with six tackles and two tackles for losses.

His best game thus far this season may have been the opening win for Cy Woods against A&M Consolidated when Washington registered six tackles and a pair of sacks. In between those games and a few others, Washington and his family, like all of the Houston area, had to deal with Hurricane Ike.

"We came out okay with really no damage to our house," said Washington. "We stayed because we didn't think it was going to hit our neighborhood that hard but there were some shingles off roofs in the neighborhood and some other damage. The lights went out but after about four hours they came back on. It was my first hurricane and it was really crazy and intense. I'd never seen anything like it."

That might be what some quarterbacks might think about meetings with the 6-2, 265-pound Washington that brings some speed with his power as he covers the forty in 4.9. He has a best on the bench press of 330 pounds and a 465-pound max on the squat. His academics are good.

"I don't know what I want to major in yet," he said. "Maybe education."

He knows that he's looking forward to Friday night's game with Jersey Village.

"I'm really kind of a combination defensive tackle," said Washington describing his style of play. "I combine power with speed and quickness."

Washington claims to have been an Oklahoma State fan and that is the school he says he wanted to play for in college. He has the chance now, along with offers from Arizona, UTEP and Utah.

"I want to take my official visit, but I need to make it match up with my football schedule," said Washington, who sounds like he'd like to visit in the near future rather than wait until after the season.
