Recruiting: Paulsen Looks For FB/H-Back Role

David Paulsen of Marietta (Walton), Ga., is a happy young man these days. After a big comeback win Friday night over Milton High School, he and his Walton teammates are ranked third in the state and sitting at 6-0. Paulsen is also scheduled to visit Oklahoma State coming up the first weekend of November for the Iowa State game, and he is finding himself really looking forward to the trip.

"I'm liking Oklahoma State a lot right now," said Paulsen. "Coach (Glenn) Spencer was recruiting me when he was at Duke and he started telling me what was going on at Oklahoma State and I'm thinking, yeah, yeah, yeah, like most coaches. But then I see it is very impressive what they have going on.

"I was glued to the TV last night watching their game with Missouri. I'm watching what Coach (Mike) Gundy has doing and Coach (Curtis) Luper. They are off to a very impressive start. They are also recruiting me as a fullback or h-back and that is what I wanted to do in college is play on offense and they think I could be in there as a freshman because they only have one fullback."

Paulsen, who is 6-3, 237 pounds, very strong and runs a 4.8, has already visited Miami of Ohio. He is also being recruited by Georgia, Tulane and Duke.

"My visit to Miami was good. It's pretty nice up there," said Paulsen. "They have a nice campus and a small college town feel. They didn't have the greatest game while I was there but the coach is a great guy and I certainly haven't written them off my list."

As for how he is playing, Paulsen sees action on both sides of the ball also playing defensive end and some linebacker.

"I thought I played really well the other night," said Paulsen of the Milton game. "On the first half we were on defense 95 percent of the time. We just ran five offensive plays. They had a back that was getting three or four yards a play and they were going first to third down and converting four or five times in a row.

"In the second half it was just the opposite. We were getting three and outs and then on offense driving the ball. I played offense the whole second half which I really like."

Paulsen said he feels like he could wrap up his recruiting shortly after the visit to OSU. "I think after that I will have all the information that I need to make a decision," he said.

Paulsen and his Walton teammates will be back in action this week against Centennial High School.
