Recruiting: Smith, Moore Look Ahead To Bedlam

Jeremy Smith and Tracy Moore each made predictions after helping Union defeat Midwest City 49-17 in an Oklahoma Class 6A state semifinal playoff game Friday night. But neither of their predictions had anything to do with facing the same Jenks team that Union defeated 24-17 in overtime in September in the state championship game. Instead, they wanted to talk about Saturday night's Bedlam game.

Jeremy Smith, the Union running back who verbally committed to Oklahoma State last February, rushed for 174 yards and four touchdowns in Friday night's semifinal victory.

Tracy Moore, the 6-3, 205-pound tight end who has developed into a big-play threat for the Redskins, set the Union career receptions record in the semifinal win.

Union, 12-1, will face Jenks, 12-1 after its semifinal win over Mustang, for the 6A state championship.

Both Smith and Moore will attend 11th-ranked Oklahoma State's game against third-ranked Oklahoma Saturday night at Boone Pickens Stadium, and both will be wearing their orange and black.

"I say the Pokes by 14," Smith predicted after the win over the Bombers.

Moore's prediction was, "OSU wins by a touchdown."

Smith was the first player in the Cowboys' Class of 2009 to make a verbal commitment and now he's hoping that his high school teammate will be joining him in Stillwater.

"I'm really interested. I have a cousin who goes to school there and then Jeremy is going to play there, so I'm really interested," said Moore, who is being recruited by Tulsa, Kansas, Colorado and Iowa State but still waiting to receive an official offer from Oklahoma State.

But Moore's offer from the Cowboys may come soon, especially if Smith has any influence.

"I tell Coach (Curtis) Luper all the time that they need to offer him. If they offer him I'll be really, really happy because he's like a brother to me," said Smith, who had touchdown runs of 5, 8, 13 and 16 yards as the Redskins won for the 12th consecutive time after opening the season with a loss to Broken Arrow.
