The Cowboys will also host three recruits this weekend, who will be on hand to watch practice. The trio of prospects includes one committed prospect in safety Joe Mitchell out of Katy (Morton Ranch), Texas. The other two prospects are linebacker Joel Kight of Atlanta (Martin Luther King), Ga., and Sand Springs (Page), Okla,. offensive lineman Michael Bowie.
Mitchell also played lots of quarterback in helping to turn around the fortunes of Morton Ranch High School football. He ran and passed for more than 1,000 yards this season and scored 20 touchdowns, while having two interceptions on defense. However, as a junior the 6-3 1/2, 200-pound Mitchell had 63 tackles and four interceptions on defense. Mitchell committed to OSU in November.
Kight has already visited Boston College and is scheduled to check out hometown Georgia Tech next week. He is also sought as an all-purpose running back. OSU likes the 5-10, 200-pounder with 4.56 speed as a "star" linebacker, the Cowboys hybrid walk down safety in their defense. Kight is known as a very physical player when on the defensive side.
Bowie is currently committed to Texas Tech. He made that verbal pledge after the Cowboys game in Lubbock as he was visiting Tech officially following breaking off his commitment to Kansas State because of the firing of Ron Prince as the Wildcats head coach. The 6-5, 305-pound Bowie is a load and would fit as a guard or tackle in the OSU offensive line. The Cowboys will have to sway him away from the Red Raiders.
This is the last official visit weekend the Cowboys will use until after the first of the year when recruiting opens back up following the holiday dead period.
