Recruiting: Barnes Looks at OSU, Purdue, Bama

Jordan Barnes recently de-committed from Michigan and is now looking at a trio of schools in Oklahoma State, Purdue and Alabama. The 6-1, 220-pound linebacker finished his senior season at Fort Wayne (Homestead), Ind., with 75 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, one sack and an interception this season after a monster junior campaign with 146 tackles and 38 tackles for loss.

"Yes, I did de-commit from Michigan, and yes, I am interested in Oklahoma State," confirmed Barnes. "It was relationships at Michigan (causing the change). I had a great relationship with my recruiting coach, but my position coach I had spoke to just a couple of times and I really didn't know him. I need to have a strong relationship with my position coach because that is the man I am going to play for."

Barnes has great speed in the 4.5 range and that is one of his strongest attributes, one that always plays well in a defense in the Big 12. The interesting aspect of this is the fact that OSU is in on a prospect from Indiana, which doesn't happen that often.

"I've been considering them awhile and since Coach (Tim) Beckman (former OSU defensive coordinator) took the head coach job at Toledo, I've been talking to Coach (Mike) Gundy," explained Barnes, who is very well spoken.

"I know they have really nice facilities being built, $200 million of facilities, so those must be nice. I also know that they haven't finalized their linebacker coach plans and I really need that to happen before I visit.

"'m scheduled to go there in early January and if that doesn't happen we've talked about moving the visit back. I am going to Purdue in mid-January (1/16) and Alabama on January 24."
