Recruiting: Mitchell Will Wait Until Summer

All four of Oklahoma State's junior college signees are charged up and ready to get going but we learned Monday that the lone high school commitment that was going to enroll for spring will hold off and report during the summer. Joe Mitchell, who played quarterback and safety for the Morton Ranch High Mavericks in Katy, Texas, will finish out his senior year with his high school classmates.

"I just decided that I could take some classes over and improve my average, and then I will report in June with the rest of the freshmen," said Mitchell.

Mitchell is expected to play safety for the Cowboys and with his size (6-3, 215 pounds) will represent an increase in size at that position which should help with matchups against bigger wide receivers and tight ends in the Big 12. Mitchell spent much of his season this year focusing on quarterback but as a junior had really good stats on defense with 63 tackles and four interceptions.

Mitchell has measureables with a 4.56 in the 40-yard dash, 38-inch vertical, 285-pound bench press, and 450-pound squat.

"I'm still committed," said Mitchell. "I'll be at Oklahoma State this summer."

That's not a bad thing because sometimes high school players that try to graduate early and miss the final semester of their senior season feel like they missed out on something. By reporting in the summer they get enough work in without skipping out early on their high school years.

Meanwhile, Copiah-Lincoln C.C. defensive back Andrew McGee and Pearl River C.C. defensive end Darius Hart will join Cowboy veteran defensive end Jeremiah Price and head to Stillwater on Wednesday.

Navarro (Texas) College All-American offensive guard Andrew Morgan said he coming from Texas to Stillwater on Thursday, and Fort Scott (Kan.) C.C. defensive tackle Horace Hubbard is heading to OSU from his home in Virginia on Wednesday.

Those four will join the Cowboys veterans in a team meeting on Monday afternoon to set the schedule for the offseason and the spring semester.
