Cowboy Football: Wickline, Glass & Recruiting

Robert Allen offers his insight on Joe Wickline, Rob Glass, and a number of other topics involving the Oklahoma State football program.

All is quiet around the Oklahoma State football offices. The usual hub bub of recruiting is going on. There are three empty offices on the hallway and every coach is out on the road as you can have seven out and head coach Mike Gundy currently has seven on staff, including himself.

######
As for the rumors regarding Joe Wickline, the Cowboys' run game coordinator and offensive line coach, I believe you can put those to bed. Wickline loves Oklahoma State and Stillwater. He has bought land outside of Stillwater, bought horses, and plans in the future to be a gentlemen rancher in retirement.

He has not been interviewing with anybody this week, and told me he has been all over East Texas driving and recruiting for Oklahoma State. Our sluths out in East Texas back that story up claiming to know he was at basketball games Tuesday night watching Sulphur Springs quarterback Tyrik Rollison, scheduled to visit Jan. 16, and Texarkana (Texas High) wide receiver Cobi Hamilton, who was playing a game at Whitehouse.

According to his mother, Hamilton is still scheduled to make an official visit to Oklahoma State this weekend. Wickline and head coach Mike Gundy are also expected in the home before the visit this coming weekend.

######
We know that Gundy was in Georgia this week and started the week in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. We know he is recruiting, but also would guess he is surveying for defensive coordinators.

######
We also know that on-campus recruiting coordinator Rob Matthews is on the job and still don't know the status of a possible offer to the hard working Matthews to become Cowboys running backs coach. We also believe the reports are true that his wife, Laura, has been offered the job of women's golf coach at Oregon.

######
The report that Cowboys assistant athletic director for strength and conditioning Rob Glass was in Jacksonville, Fla., on Tuesday interviewing with the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars for the job of strength and conditioning coach has been confirmed by the best source of all -- Glass himself.

Glass is a well respected individual in his field that has been courted on other occasions. His family is in Oklahoma and he is an Oklahoma State grad, but he also loves Florida. Glass knows how people at Oklahoma State, fans included, feel about him and the job he has done.

Personally, I think he will stay, but we will wait and see what happens.

######
The news from Georgia on Wednesday that quarterback Matt Stafford and running back Knowshon Moreno will be turning pro and going to the NFL early has to be greeted with enthusiasm by OSU fans.

Stafford, a Dallas Highland Park product, is a senior-to-be and Moreno, if he stayed, would be a redshirt junior. The pair are the major playmakers in the Bulldogs offense. Georgia opens the next season at Boone Pickens Stadium on Sept. 5.

######
This upcoming weekend is a recruiting weekend and there are three players expected to be in attendance on official visits.

*Cobi Hamilton, WR, 6-3, 198, 4.55, Texarkana (Texas), Texas - OSU (1/9), OU, Kansas, Baylor, Arkansas, Mississippi

*Jordan Barnes, LB, 6-1, 220, 4.5, Fort Wayne (Homestead), Ind. - De-committed from Michigan, OSU (1/9), Purdue (1/16), Alabama (1/24)

*Charlie Moore, Ath., 6-3, 200, 4.5, Bullard, Texas - Verbally commits to OSU (1/9) after de-committing from ULM.

The Cowboys also are apparently bringing in some other visitors on the weekend, including Little All-City Offensive Player of the Year and unanimous First Team All-State quarterback Turner Petersen of Oklahoma City Heritage Hall. Petersen (6-2, 190) ran for more than 700 yards and threw for more than 1,400 yards this season with a combined 39 touchdowns. He also had 98 tackles and five interceptions on defense and even kicked a field goal and punted for a 40-yard average for the 2A state champions.

Another need is another deep snapper and Tulsa Cascia Hall product Connor Sinko (6-3, 240) is coming in this weekend to take a look around.
