Recruiting: Hamilton Visits Arkansas, Not OSU

Wide receiver Cobi Hamilton of Texarkana (Texas High), Texas, did not make a trip Oklahoma State this weekend. Hamilton seems oblivious to the controversy that waged on message boards last week over his recruiting preferences in the wake of Trooper Taylor accepting a coaching position at Auburn. It appears at this point that Auburn is not in the mix for Hamilton, who visited Arkansas this weekend.

"I'm finally back in Texas," said Hamilton in returning our call Sunday afternoon after his visit to Fayetteville. "It was good, what I expected to be.

"I hung out with Ryan Mallett (former Texarkana Texas High quarterback that transferred to Arkansas after starting out at Michigan) and those guys that he is always hanging with. This was my third or fourth time at Arkansas so I pretty much know about everything and where everything is. The weight room is impressive and it is one of the best and the biggest in the nation. I talk to all the coaches some more. There just is not a lot there that I haven't seen."

Hamilton said that he has some thinking to do now. He has been to Arkansas and before the holidays visited Kansas (12/12) and Missouri (12/19).

When asked what he will do now, who is in the mix, and whether he will go anywhere next weekend, he answered, "I need to sit down and talk with my coach, Coach Norton, that is my head coach," said the 6-3 1/2 and 190-pound Hamilton.

"I need to see what is going on with a couple of schools, Oklahoma State and Oklahoma. I don't know what I am going to do next," Hamilton responded.

Asked about his popularity, he admitted that there were a couple of coaches at his basketball game with Whitehouse on Tuesday night and then a couple of coaches at his game later in the week against Atlanta. There is good reason as he caught 64 passes as a senior for 1,071 yards and 14 touchdowns. He averaged 16.7 yards a reception this past season as one of the best wide receivers in Texas.

He also said we could call back midweek after he has had a chance to speak with Coach Norton and make out a game plan for the rest of his recruitment.
