Sports Illustrated Likes Cowboys in 2009

Oklahoma State fans are always looking for respect, for verification, even vindication of their often slighted football program. Well, they should be happy with an inclusion to the story on the BCS National Championship Game in the latest (dated Jan. 19) issue of Sports Illustrated. At the bottom of pages 46 and 47, college football writer Stewart Mandel gives his Top 10 for the 2009 season.

1. Florida - Tebow and defense coming back.

2. Texas - McCoy and Shipley headline a wealth of offensive talent.

3. USC - If QB Mark Sanchez (he isn't) returns there are 10 starters back on offense.

4. Oklahoma - DT McCoy and LB Lewis lead an experienced defense.

5. Alabama - More talent across the board in Saban's third season.

6. Ole Miss - Hot team could have best season since '60s if defense improves.

7. Oklahoma State - Offense with QB Robinson should be dynamic again.

8. Utah - Big losses at skill positions, but nine starters back on defense.

9. LSU - Tigers have a QB they can trust in Jordan Jefferson.

10. Virginia Tech - Returning QB (Taylor) and RB (Evans) and defense bodes well.

Others to keep eye on: Oregon, Boise State, Georgia Tech, Penn State, Oregon State.

It's nice for the Cowboys to be included in preseason royalty!
