Recruiting: The Demontre Hurst Mystery

The questions that Oklahoma State football fans are asking with National Signing Day just hours away revolve around the status of Demontre Hurst of Lancaster, Texas. Everyone wants to know who Hurst is going to sign with Wednesday? Will it be OSU or will it be Oklahoma? Those are good questions, and ones that can't even be answered by Lancaster (Texas) High School head coach Andrew Jackson.

GoPokes.com's Robert Allen has had a number of telephone conversations with Jackson throughout the day Tuesday in an attempt to find out with which school the 5-foot-10, 170-pound cornerback is going to sign with since no one has been able to get in touch with Hurst.

"Our signing is at 9:30 tomorrow and as far as I know Demontre is signing with Oklahoma State," Jackson told Allen early Tuesday. "I know he visited OU, I found that out yesterday, but he has never told me anything different from Oklahoma State."

But then the Lancaster head coach called Robert Allen back around noon Tuesday, and said he and one of the assistant football coaches were going to go find Hurst in school to get a definitive answer. He told Robert Allen to call back at 4:30 p.m., and he would give him an answer.

But Hurst was not at school as he had left early to go shopping with his uncle for clothes for the Wednesday signing ceremony, Jackson said. What color of clothes? We don't know.

"Demontre has told me that he's still committed to Oklahoma State, but he told his position coach that he's going to sign with Oklahoma. I don't know where he's going to sign," Jackson said when Robert Allen called back at 4:30.

"I've got to find out if anybody has any papers from OU because I've got papers from Oklahoma State. I'm not sure we'll know until 9:30 tomorrow, and that is when we are doing our official signing," said Jackson, who has nine football players signing letters of intent Wednesday.

"I know this," Jackson continued, "Oklahoma State really wants him. I have to check on the other players that OU was waiting on to make sure they even have room for Demontre.

"I won't lie. He's a really, really good player."
