Recruiting: Lewis Has Plenty Of Offers

Linebacker Shaun Lewis of Fort Bend (Hightower), Texas is a speed linebacker that absolutely makes plays from sideline to sideline. The 6-0, 195-pounder has 4.6 speed and is strong too. He reports a bench press max of 350 pounds and a top squat of 485 pounds. The former basketball player also has a vertical jump of 35 inches.

His numbers are way up there with 134 tackles last season in leading Hightower to the Class 5A state finals against Allen, an eventually hard fought loss. Along with the 134 stops, Lewis had 22 tackles for loss, 9 sacks, and 6 fumbles forced. As a sophomore he had 100 total tackles with 11 sacks.

"There have been a bunch," said Lewis when asked which schools had offered a scholarship already. "I'm doing this off memory, there is Alabama, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Baylor, Stanford, Duke, Oregon, and Oregon State."

We also confirmed that Houston had offered, and Lewis told us he has been told Oklahoma State has offered and is waiting to get the document any day now. Lewis said he liked Oklahoma State and Joe DeForest, who is recruiting him.

"I want to major in engineering, some field of engineering," said Lewis. "My grades are good, A's and B's.

"I followed Texas and Miami growing up. Texas because of Vince Young and Miami because I really liked the way they played football. They had a running back named Willis McGehee, and I liked the way he played. Miami and Texas were my favorites."

Lewis acknowledges that now his favorites are the schools that are showing an interest in him.

"I'm looking for a home away from home," said Lewis of his thoughts on finding a school. "I know that when I go away to college I will be there for four or fives years, so I want to find a home away from home."

This spring Lewis is keeping busy with offseason football and he plays soccer and is on the track team. In soccer he is a goal keeper, while in track he does the long jump and the triple jump.
