Recruiting: Catlin Ready To See OSU

During the course of covering recruiting each year there are a lot of prospects you talk with. The majority of them you have never seen play when you speak to them the first time. The first impression you get of a prospect is usually that first conversation. Most of them are polite but some you just get a feeling about. Linebacker Kris Catlin of San Antonio (Madison), Texas, is one of those.

The 6-1 1/2, 210-pound Catlin is sharp, very well spoke, polite, and you can literally tell he's the kind of young man local fathers are hoping will date their daughter. Fortunately, he is a hitter on the football field that had 98 tackles last season and earned first team All-District honors in District 26-5A.

"I'm just thinking I need to keep working hard and that good things will happen," said Catlin when asked his thoughts on recruiting so far. "I'm not taking anything for granted. I just want to keep working to get better and everything else will fall into place."

There is already a lot in place as Catlin has offers from Missouri, Oklahoma State, Houston, and Illinois. That is not a bad way to get started and this weekend he is heading north with two of his Madison teammates, defensive back Tommie Saunders and wide receiver Nate Askew, to check out Oklahoma State.

"I am really excited to go up there and check out the campus," said Catlin when asked about the trip. "I saw Oklahoma State on TV once last season and I don't remember who they were playing but I remember that they won. Then I also saw them in the game at Texas. I was one of the Longhorn recruits over on the other side. That was a tough game."

Catlin admits he grew up a Texas Longhorn fan. "I was like a lot of kids in that I was rooting for the Longhorns," he said.

Now he is squarely focused on the schools that are focused on him. Athletically, he has a best of 4.64 in the forty and a 330-pound max on the bench press, with a 450 max on the squat. His vertical jump is 32 inches.

Academically, he has a good GPA and while he is not sure of a college major he spit out criminal justice as a possibliity when talking to us.

Catlin is a sharp young man and while we haven't seen him play we like his personality and heads up approach to talking with the media.
