Recruiting: Barnett Impressed With Junior Day

Defensive tackle Calvin Barnett of Tulsa (Washington), Okla., said what struck him about his Junior Day visit to Oklahoma State was, "everything was so big." Well, Calvin is pretty good size himself. The wall up front on the Hornets defense that helped win the Class 5A Oklahoma state championship said he measured 6-3, 319 pounds in Stillwater on Saturday.

Barnett has a bench press of 330 pounds before a shoulder injury he is rehabbing, and his squat max is 500 pounds. The honorable mention All-State performer had four sacks last season and many more tackles for loss on run plays.

Barnett said off the top of his head he has heard from close to a dozen schools including Oklahoma State and OU. But he has offers from Tennessee, Oregon State, Arkansas, Iowa State, and just on Friday from Florida. He also knows he has heard from Texas Tech and North Carolina. He really enjoyed his Junior Day visit to Oklahoma State.

"It went pretty well, it was a real eye opener," started Barnett. "Everything was so big, it was really big. The tour of the new facilities, they aren't completed yet, but everything down there is so big ... the locker room, weight room, everything.

"We talked to the players and they said in the dorm rooms everybody sleeps on a nine-foot bed," recounted Barnett. "That really got me, a nine-foot bed."

Barnett said he is kind of taking everything in stride right now with recruiting and doesn't appear to be in a hurry to make a decision. He is a good student with a 3.0 GPA and he is set to take the ACT for the first time in April. He is looking to major in business management.

With the offers he is getting there is no doubt he is going to land somewhere "Big."
