Recruiting: Stephens To Attend Spring Game

Defensive back Larry Stephens of Galena Park (North Shore), Texas, is on the Oklahoma State list as the Cowboys must have discovered the District 21-5A standout while they were recruiting Andrae May last season. Stephens is a cornerback that is also physically talented enough to play safety. He could play anywhere in the secondary.

North Shore's opponents would prefer he not play anywhere in the secondary as he picked off five passes last season and also had 12 passes broken up. He has no idea on how many tackles he made, but he is a physical tackler for a corner. The 5-11, 180-pound Stephens runs a 4.55 in the forty.

"Right now I am running track and we have a meet over at Kingwood tomorrow," said Stephens on Thursday afternoon. "I run the 200 meters, 4X100, 4X200, and I long jump."

Stephens seemingly is under the radar a little bit or schools are waiting to see him in May during the evaluation period. Oklahoma State, SMU, and Miami of Ohio have each offered him a scholarship. He said he got a letter from Oregon on Thursday and he has also had mail from Alabama and Florida.

"I have been on the SMU campus and I am planning on going to Oklahoma State for their spring game later this month," said Stephens, who said he wasn't sure when he was going to make a decision. He does know what he wants in a school. He has thought hard about that.

"Education and they have to have my major, I want to major in computer engineering," said Stephens. "I want to go to a school close enough that my parents can see me play. That is important to them and to me. Then playing time is important because I want the chance to play soon."

Stephens did not come out and say Oklahoma State was the favorite, but he did seem to talk more about them than the others. The trip to OSU for the April 18 Orange-White Game could be really important.
