Recruiting: OSU Offers But A&M May Have Moore

Oklahoma State has been picking up with more scholarship offers again but the one to defensive end DaMontre Moore of Rowlett, Texas may have been a little late. The 6-6, 224-pound Moore, who has had his stock rise rapidly, made a trip last Saturday to Junior Day at Texas A&M and by the time he left to go home to Rowlett he had committed to the Aggies.

"I committed to Texas A&M this past Saturday," said Moore. "They have a really good engineering program and they told me the focus was on me getting my education. It was okay that I played football but the real important thing was to focus on my education. They told me I could get my master's (degree) for free and that they also wanted me to get my teaching degree."

Moore added that he really liked the coaches and described them as "down to earth." He said it is A&M assistant Randy Jordan who he has had the most contact with but he also sat down with defensive line coach Buddy Wyatt and with head coach Mike Sherman.

"They told me that A&M has a great program in Aerospace Engineering, which is what I want to specialize in," said Moore. "They told me that few schools offer that and the other ones that do don't teach it as well as A&M. My backup is architecture and they also offer that."

Moore also plays basketball and came on really strong in that sport during the district season. He is rapidly improving in football and growing into his frame. He really was off the radar screen early this spring but his stock is rising fast.

He has a 4.7 in the forty which is awesome for his size. He also said it came on a slow surface. He has a 220 max on the bench press and a 385 on the squat with a 28-inch vertical. He also has another offer now, at least one.

"My mom got e-mails this morning from Oklahoma State and Oklahoma," said Moore. "OSU said they were offering a full scholarship and OU said they wanted us to contact them. I will hear them out but I'm pretty committed to Texas A&M."

It may come down to whether anybody else can convince Moore they can teach engineering as well. He's a sharp young man and education is a primary factor with him.
