Cowboy Football: Spring Practice Notebook

A healthy number of players had to shower up and get ready after Monday's practice to be at the annual Student-Athlete Academic Awards Banquet. The banquet honors all student-athletes that have received academic awards during the year, including Academic All-Big 12 and on campus awards such as President's and Dean's honor rolls.

Among the current Cowboys receiving awards are wide receiver Dez Bryant, wide receiver DeMarcus Conner, running back Kendall Hunter, running back Beau Johnson, offensive tackle Andrew Mitchell, offensive tackle Russell Okung, center Andrew Lewis, center Grant Garner, defensive end Richetti Jones, defensive tackle Shane Jarka and linebacker Andre Sexton.

Two Visitors on Hand
Friday is usually the day you see a good number of recruiting prospects on campus viewing spring practice and head coach Mike Gundy and his staff are hoping for a large number of prospective recruits to be at the Orange-White game on Saturday.

But there were a pair of players attending Monday's practice. Offensive lineman Dalton Forsythe of Grapevine, Texas, and linebacker Hunter Stover of Crowley (Notre Dame), La., were at Boone Pickens Stadium for Monday afternoon's practice.

Forsythe is a 6-4, 268-pound prospect that has attracted attention from the likes of BYU, Boise State, SMU, Colorado, UCLA, Texas Tech, and Utah. Stover is a safety/linebacker type of prospect that is also an outstanding punter and kicker.
