Recruiting: Nelson, Teammates Make It To OSU

We caught up Sunday afternoon with Oklahoma State commitment Montra Nelson out of Arlington (Bowie), Texas, as he was heading home from Stillwater, where he attended Saturday night's Orange-White spring game. Nelson, a 6-3, 215-pound wide receiver, was joined on the trip to OSU by Bowie teammates Donovan Vestal (6-5, 225), a defensive end, and Diamonte Wheeler (6-2 1/2, 251), a defensive tackle.

"Yes sir, we are on our way home and Diamonte and Donovan are with me," said Montra, who committed to Oklahoma State in early March. "That's (recruiting) is what I am trying to do. I'm trying to help Coach (Doug) Meacham."

Nelson is a big wide receiver with excellent speed for his size as he runs a 4.6 in the forty. He had nine receptions last season for 93 yards and also ran the ball five times for 38 yards and a couple of touchdowns. He has a huge upside with his physical skills. Kansas and TCU had also offered when he committed to OSU.

"I'm getting even more mail," said Nelson of what is going on in his recruiting. "No more offers, but the mail gets to be more all the time."

Nelson and fellow Bowie prospects Wheeler and Vestal had the opportunity with other prospects at the game to check out the facilities in the west end zone which are close to being completed.

"It went pretty good (the whole day)," said Nelson. "We saw the weight room and it is finished. All they have to do is move in the weights. They showed us the team meeting room and some of the individual meeting rooms. We saw the rehab facilities. It is really nice. It was a good trip for my second time. I didn't see anything that changed my mind."

In the meantime, Nelson will continue working as a recruiter with his Bowie teammates, who are both getting plenty of attention.
