Recruiting: Porter Likes Oklahoma State

Track season is coming down to crunch time for powerhouse Midwest City Carl Albert but Titans standout sprinter and defensive back Tre'Vante Porter (he can play safety or corner) took time out of his schedule to be in Stillwater on Saturday night for the Orange-White spring game.

Oklahoma State is one of four schools that have offered the 6-0, 175-pound talent that had 94 tackles and four interceptions last season for the Class 5A state runner-up Titans. He also earned honorable mention All-State and second team All-City. Porter said he really liked what he saw on this trip to OSU.

"Saturday went great," said Porter. "I found out a lot more about Oklahoma State than I did my last time up there. The campus is awesome. I really like everything about it. The new facilities, they let us see all of that. They are really nice and they are almost completely finished."

Porter said Oklahoma State is under strong consideration, and he also has the offers from Nebraska and Kansas State. Now there is another school in the mix.

"I'm getting looks from Florida," said Porter when asked what was new with his recruitment.

Porter has said he hopes to be able to make a commitment before the start of his senior season so that he can concentrate on winning a state championship at Carl Albert.

He could realize another state championship here soon as once again the track program is in position to claim a state title.

"We are doing pretty good," said Porter. "We finished third in the Midwest City meet and the only two schools that finished ahead of us in the 4X100 (relay) were Del City and Midwest City. Del City has the fastest time in the state this year, so we're doing okay and in 5A we will be a great competitor for the title."

The Titans best in the 4X100 this spring is 42.8 seconds. The Titans will look to improve on that and tackle some more tough 6A competition on the track this Thursday and Friday in an Edmond meet that will be held at both Edmond Memorial and Edmond North High Schools.
