Recruiting: Wheeler Likes OSU

Defensive tackle prospect Diamonte Wheeler of Arlington (Bowie), Texas traveled to Oklahoma State this weekend for the Cowboys' spring game with Bowie teammates Donovan Vestal and Montra Nelson. Nelson has been an OSU verbal commitment for close to a month and a half, so Wheeler and Vestal caught a recruiting sales pitch from Nelson on the trip to Stillwater, and on the way home.

However, Wheeler didn't sound like he needed a recruiting pitch as he virtually gave one himself when asked about the trip.

"I loved it," said Wheeler. "I had been wanting to go back up there since my first visit and I really like it.

"We got to see the new facilities which are almost done and they are top flight. The meeting rooms, the team room, and the locker room they can't be any better than what they have there. Then the coaching staff, I really like all of the coaches. Coach (Doug) Meacham (recruiting coach) is really cool. He is kind of funny," Wheeler added.

Wheeler finished last season with 39 total tackles, 4.5 sacks, 2 fumbles recovered, and a fumble caused. He is a very athletic and active defensive tackle prospect at 6-2 1/2 and 251 pounds.

Wheeler is now getting ready for spring football at Bowie which starts on Wednesday and will conclude on May 21 with the Orange-White game-Bowie version.

As far as recruiting goes, Wheeler said besides Oklahoma State he is considering Texas Tech (getting lots of letters), Oregon, and Kansas State. He is also anticipating another offer soon.

"I'm supposed to go up to Oklahoma this weekend," said Wheeler. "I have a feeling that they are going to offer pretty soon."
