Recruiting: Stephens Is Latest Commit

Joe DeForest has done it again. The Oklahoma State associate head coach has again gone into talent-rich North Shore High School in Galena Park, Texas, and come out with another outstanding player. North Shore defensive back Larry Stephens has given his verbal commitment to DeForest and the Cowboys, following 2009 signee Andrae May north to Stillwater.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound Stephens is a talented cornerback (five interceptions and 12 passes broken up last season) but he's also physical enough to play safety.

Stephens made the trip north from the Houston area to Stillwater for the Orange-White game last month, and came away impressed.

"I liked the campus, the facilities, and the coaches," Stephens said after he and three of his Galena Park teammates made the trip to Stillwater for the April 18 spring game. "It was good, really good, and I liked it.

"I want to go to a school close enough that my parents can see me play. That is important to them and to me," said Stephens, who plans to major in computer engineering. "Then playing time is important because I want the chance to play soon."

Stephens picked Oklahoma State after receiving offers from Baylor, Texas-El Paso, SMU, Houston and Miami (Ohio).
