Recruiting: No Changes For Bennett

Standout athlete Eric Bennett of Tulsa (Booker T. Washington), Okla., says everything is just fine this spring between the Hornets track team heading for regionals this weekend and the heavy influx of college football coaches coming by to check on Bennett, talented defensive tackle Calvin Barnett, and several other potential college recruiting prospects in the Washington program.

"It's is all going reall good," said the 5-10, 175-pound speedster. "We have regional track at Skiatook this weekend. I'm running the 100 meters and the 4X100 meter relay."

Bennett, who is a 4.5 or better in the 40-yard dash, has a best time in the 100 meters of 10.7 seconds. He said that he and Calvin Barnett are still considering going to the same school together, and that Oklahoma State and Arkansas are still the two schools that are actively recruiting the pair the most.

"I'm wide open and I've really made good relationships with all the coaches that are recruiting me," said Bennett. "Arkansas has been in here and Garrick McGee is recruiting me for them. Coach (Gunter) Brewer has been here and he is recruiting me for Oklahoma State."

Washington head coach Antain Jimmerson reports Thursday that not only has Brewer been by, but OSU defensive coordinator Bill Young and cornerbacks coach Jason Jones have also been by showing interest in both Bennett and Barnett.

"Missouri hasn't offered and neither has Alabama but they have both been by," added Bennett, who also has offers from Texas Tech, Oregon State, Kansas State, and Tennessee.

"I am still really wide open on all of it," he said. "I haven't decided what my plans are yet for this summer, but I will probably go to some camps so I can get on and see some of the campuses."

Last season Bennett combined to run for 1,068 yards and 18 touchdowns while throwing for 1,004 yards and 11 touchdowns in leading the Hornets to the Class 5A state championship. He also played a little defense and that is where several schools have told him they want him to play including Oklahoma State.

Bennett and his BTW teammates will open the season in a rematch of the 5A title game when they visit Midwest City Carl Albert. That will be a game to look forward to.
