Recruiting: Smiley Picking Up Offers

One of the prospects that Oklahoma State has offered that we had yet to catch up with is tight end Trent Smiley out of Frisco (Wakeland), Texas. Wakeland is just a three-year-old high school but they can be proud of the students they are producing if Smiley is an example. The 6-4, 220-pounder is a very well spoken and polite young man.

Smiley put together a very impressive list of offers that not only includes the Cowboys but also Florida State, Iowa State, Kansas, and Wake Forest.

"I don't know my stats, but they aren't all that impressive," said a modest Smiley. "We have been running out of the spread offense but we are starting to gear things more to the tight end."

Smiley's physical prowess has been impressive to schools and recruiters including the Cowboys Doug Meacham, who Smiley said is recruiting him for Oklahoma State. Smiley also throws the shot put and discus for the track team and is a power-lifter. His bench press is 300 pounds, his squat is 420 pounds, and he has a 32-inch vertical jump.

He has a good idea what he is looking for in a school.<

"I'm looking for great academics and a family aspect," he said. "The family aspect is important. A good football program would be good too, but I'm willing to sacrifice that in order to go somewhere that I am comfortable. I'm looking to major in Environmental Science."

He is still open and so is his timetable for making a decision.

"I am still very open to the schools that have contacted me and offered me and I am keeping my options open," said Smiley. "I plan on visiting as many of these schools as I can this summer. I think that once I finish that and around August after I've seen a lot of these schools it will become apparent what I need to do or the schools where I would best fit in."

Both Smiley's mother and father went to Iowa, and his mother still has most of her family back in Iowa. At this point that is not a huge factor, according to Smiley.
