Recruiting: Wheeler Picks Up Another Offer

Defensive tackle Diamonte Wheeler of Arlington (Bowie), Texas is rapidly becoming one of the most sought after defensive linemen in Texas. Thankfully, Wheeler loves to text and therefore we get almost immediate updates. He recently added offers from Arkansas and Texas Tech, and Wednesday the Minnesota Golden Gophers offered.

The 6-2, 255-pound Wheeler is enjoying recruiting and already has offers from the trio above and Oklahoma State, Houston, Kansas, Kansas State, and Nebraska.

He has been on the Oklahoma State campus twice and is good friends with Bowie wide receiver Montra Nelson, and Oklahoma State commit. The Cowboys are also recruiting and have offered Bowie defensive end Donovan Vestal.

Wheeler wants to major in business and marketing, and you get the idea he will be very demanding in finding out what he needs to know. Last season he finished with 39 total tackles, 4.5 sacks, 2 fumbles recovered, and a fumble caused and he says he will demand more of himself next season to get Bowie past the area round of the playoffs.

While high school wrestling has really caught on in Texas over the past decade, you still don't hear of many football players involved in it, but it really emphasizes balance and leverage, which are major attributes for defensive tackles. Wheeler wrestled this offseason and qualified for district. He also throws the shot and discus in track.

He has a very strong lower body with a 550-pound max on the squat and a solid 280-pound max on the bench press. He also has an 18-inch vertical jump.
