Guess The Recruiting Class: Installment 8

It's time for another installment of our exercise of trying to guess how Oklahoma State's final roll call for the recruiting class of 2010 will look when they sign on the dotted line next February.

Okay, here we go again. One of the listeners to my radio show brought this up Tuesday and said to me that he imagined some things had changed with that huge half-day high school camp last Sunday. He's right!

What is going to happen for sure this recruiting season is that OSU is going to turn down some very good players, prospects that a year ago, or maybe two or three years ago the Cowboys would have scratched and clawed to get committed and signed.

For first time readers of this feature, this is our exercise of trying to guess how the Cowboys final roll call for the recruiting class of 2010 will look when they sign on the dotted line on Wednesday, Feb. 3.

Our batting average started out strong and now it has leveled off. Here's a look at the scoreboard.
Players committed before we started: 3
Players that committed that we did not have listed: 1
Players we had listed that have committed: 6
Players we had listed at the time they committed: 5
Players we had listed that committed to other schools: 4

Here we go...

Obviously, Matt Dahr is out, and that was an embarrassment although I believe he committed the day after we released it.

Guess the 201 OSU recruiting class
* Signifies a player that has made a verbal commitment

*QB: Johnny Deaton, 6-3, 185, 4.6, Sand Springs (Charles Page), Okla.
Had an ankle injury in team camp, but he will be fine. He was a spectator at the half-day camp.

*QB: Nathan Sorenson, 6-4, 195, 4.5, Texarkana (Texas), Texas
Three-sport star won a state title this spring in track (4X200) and in baseball.

*WR: Montra Nelson, 6-3, 210, 4.6, Arlington (Bowie), Texas
Nelson is a really big WR and was in the half-day camp. It's impressive how well he moves for a big guy, he is smooth.

WR: Darius White, 6-4, 210, 4.5, Fort Worth (Dunbar), Texas
He says Texas leads and OSU is second. OSU's Doug Meacham has been on him starting early.

*WR: Kevin Johnson, 6-2, 195, 4.4, Houston (Cy Ridge), Texas
Johnson and family were in camp and he really showed off. I'm not sure he missed a ball. Yes, he is fast.

WR: Quantavious Leslie, 6-4, 185, 4.45, Hogansville (Callaway), Ga.
Leslie says OSU leads and he is really anxious to visit the campus.

OL: Dan Koenig, 6-6, 260, 5.1, Cape Coral, Fla.
OSU and Tennessee are the top two. Offensive line coach Joe Wickline made Koenig his last stop in May.

OL: Austin Woods, 6-5, 280, 5.2, Rockwall (Heath), Texas
Woods reportedly favors OSU. He finished his camp season at the OSU half-day on 6/14.

OL: Denton Simek, 6-6, 285, 5.2, Prague, Okla.
Recently turned 17, he has so much potential for the future. Good player and person.

OL: Evan Washington, 6-6, 290, 5.1, DeSoto, Texas
Washington continues to show interest and he would represent huge OL get.

DT: Calvin Barnett, 6-3, 315, 5.4, Tulsa (Washington), Okla.
Another hot property, Barnett and his mother made an unofficial visit last week.

DT: Diamonte Wheeler, 6-2, 255, 4.95, Arlington (Bowie), Texas
Wheeler just reported he was offered by Minnesota, but he still seems to like OSU.

DT: Torrea Peterson, 6-4, 265, 4.9, San Antonio (East Central), Texas
Peterson said recently he likes OSU, but this prospect has a lot of suitors.

*DE: Chase Rome, 6-3, 285, 4.75, Columbia (Rock Bridge), Mo.
A 4-star recruit in our book, we're smarter than the star gazers. Rome is recruiting (for OSU) and recently was offered by four other schools.

DE: Donovan Vestal, 6-6, 235, 4.75, Arlington (Bowie), Texas
Vestal joins Wheeler and Nelson as Meacham's Bowie triangle.

*LB: Stephen Maeweather, 6-3, 215, 4.6, Houston (Sharpstown), Texas
Very athletic linebacker that committed to the Cowboys early. He is perfect for OLB.

*LB: Caleb Lavey, 6-4, 214, 4.7, Celina, Texas
Another 4-star kind of player and Lavey looks to be the man inside at MLB. <>br>
*LB: Kris Catlin, 6-1 1/2, 215, 4.6, San Antonio (Madison), Texas
Was one of the first LBers that OSU offered and was almost always near the top of the list.

Star: Synjyn Days, 6-1, 200, 4.5, Powder Springs (Hillgrove), Ga.
Great kid and may be one of the Georgia kids willing to head to Big 12 country. He recently made an unofficial to OSU and will make one to N.C. State.

CB: Eric Bennett, 5-11, 165, 4.45, Tulsa (Washington), Okla.
Part of that Tulsa Washington state championship team, Bennett is a natural for corner.

CB: Ciante Evans, 6-0, 170, 4.45, Arlington (Seguin), Texas
Evans has been on OSU campus twice and professes to love it in Stillwater.

*CB: Larry Stephens, 6-0, 180, 4.5, Galena Park (North Shore), Texas
He is the second straight big cornerback prospect from North Shore. Andrae May is at OSU.

*S: Deion Imade, 6-0, 175, 4.4, Rowlett, Texas
He needed to be six foot and he was for Cowboys to be interested.

S: Tre'Vante Porter, 6-0, 180, 4.5, Midwest City (Carl Albert), Okla.
He just finished helping Carl Albert to another 5A track title, now time for football.

Athlete: Justin Gilbert, 6-0, 178, 4.35, Huntsville, Texas
He blazed that 4.35 in camp in Texas and is rapidly rising on lots of charts and lists.
