Q&A With Andre Sexton

Andre Sexton is definitely a leader of the Oklahoma State defense. Sexton was the leading tackler for the Cowboys a year ago and has proven that he will play physical from his "star" linebacker position.

He actually has 248 tackles in his career with 15.5 going for a loss, and 2.5 sacks. He also has three interceptions, five forced fumbles, and two fumbles recovered.

Sexton is a smart, well-spoken individual that has honors ranging from All-Big 12, Academic All-Big 12, and Freshman All-American. For the Cowboys defense to shine this season, Sexton has to play a major role and he expect to.

GP: Do you see a big crowd, a crazy crowd for the game next week?
AS: The last time we went down to Troy they beat our butts. That was the game that last season set the all-time record for Boone Pickens Stadium, so I expect something similar (to a record) because our fans want to see some redemption (for the 2007 Georgia loss).

Our fans should be fired up with the sea of orange going. I think it will be louder than it was (last year) for OU because the fans and all the excitement and the hype for the team this year. The fans are going to come in for the first game this season all riled up and wanting to see big hits and big plays on offense and a huge start to the season.

GP: This is unchartered territory like you said with all the hype. The fans are crazy. Do you have to think about defusing this a little within the team because you have to stay more even keeled?
AS: Yeah, I mean Coach Gundy and the staff have done a good job of keeping us level headed. If there is something up in the media clippings he bring it up in the team meetings because it is not going to help us any in defeating Georgia. He keeps us level headed and focused, and the experience we had last season in big games and the success we had has helped us learn to not focus on the hype of the game but on the Xs and Os and what we can control on Saturday when it is actually time to go out and play.

GP: Are you happy with what you are seeing on the practice field defensively?
AS: Sometimes we come out a little slow but we have great leadership and we get fired up and we have been able to stop the offense. Everybody is flying around and practice isn't something that is forced on us right now. Everybody is enjoying it and looking forward to going out there and flying around because everybody wants to be successful this year and put in the work it takes to be successful going into this season.
