Recruiting: Hedgepeth Says He'll Be Fine

Answering a tip from one of our frequent posters on the Premium Board, we checked in with recent Oklahoma State Cowboy football commitment Devin Hedgepeth of Derby, Kan. The two-way standout on the powerhouse Derby squad was playing in a scrimmage Friday and did suffer an injury, although it should not keep him out much, if any at all.

"I was playing on offense at wide receiver and I went to go block a cornerback," said the 6-0, 190-pound Hedgepeth, who is being pointed to defense and cornerback at Oklahoma State.

"It was a freak injury as his hand got stuck inside my facemask and kind of messed up my face. They said there might be a hairline fracture of the orbital bone. They said it wasn't serious and after the double vision and pain goes away I can be back at practice. I might miss one day of practice at the most."

Hedgepeth, who always has a positive attitude every time we speak with him and is also a perfect 4.0 student on his way to valedictorian honors at Derby, said the Derby team is shaping up well.

"The offense looked really good in the scrimmage and the defense is especially sharp with all the seniors we have back on that side of the ball," said Hedgepeth.

Derby opens their 2009 season on Friday night on the road at Haysville Campus High School near Wichita.
