Archie Manning Tours New Football Facilities

Rumors were spreading like wildfire Thursday afternoon that one of the Manning quarterbacks - Peyton of the Indianapolis Colts or Eli of the New York Giants – was in Stillwater. There was a Manning in Stillwater on Thursday, it just wasn't Peyton or Eli. The Manning in Stillwater was former NFL MVP and patriarch of the NFL's number one quarterback family, Archie Manning.

The former Ole Miss star, who went on to a long NFL career with the New Orleans Saints and later the Houston Oilers, was at Oklahoma State for a speaking engagement, brought in by Conoco-Phillips.

Manning is a good friend of OSU co-offensive coordinator Gunter Brewer. Brewer's father, Billy, was the head coach at Ole Miss after the older Manning and before Eli made it Oxford.

"He was here for a speaking engagement and called up," said Brewer. "He came over to meet Coach (Mike) Gundy and the staff, and he toured the football facilities."

Manning and his three sons, that also includes Cooper, a former Ole Miss wide receiver, hold a passing camp every summer in Louisiana. Brewer has worked that camp for a number of years and the last two years so has current Cowboy quarterback Zac Robinson. In fact, after this summer's camp, Robinson had struck up a friendship with Eli and they have continued to communicate.

Archie Manning was at the Boone Pickens Stadium west end zone facility for only about 30 minutes and then flew out of Stillwater in the afternoon after his speaking engagement.
