Recruiting: Porter Is Committed But ...

One of the top players in the Oklahoma is two-way, multiple threat Tre Porter of Midwest City (Carl Albert). Porter has been committed since before the start of the season to Texas Tech. In the meantime, Porter has done a little of everything and now the Titans at 9-2 are in the Class 5A quarterfinals and will travel Friday for a showdown with top ranked and unbeaten Bishop Kelley in Tulsa.

Porter has his focus on winning another gold ball at Carl Albert.

"We are playing good right now, and I feel like I am playing well," he said. "I hope I see you at the state championship game."

Porter was a big part of the Carl Albert run last season that fell short with a loss to Tulsa Washington in the title game.

This season he has 85 tackles and an interception on defense despite teams throwing away from him. On offense he has 573 yards rushing on 57 carries with nine touchdowns and an average of 10 yards a carry. He has caught 17 passes for 570 yards and eight touchdowns for a whopping 35.5 yards per catch average.

We did take his attention away from the showdown with Kelley to ask if he was in Stillwater to watch Texas Tech play OSU on Saturday.

"No, I couldn't make it to the game," said Porter. "I'm committed to Texas Tech right now, but I am interested in learning more about some other programs."

When asked which programs that might be, Porter said, "I'm not comfortable saying right now."

Porter seemed uncomfortable talking about it, and more about how the Titans are doing. Just a guess, but for Porter, the recruiting may wait until after the season is concluded and then he might be more comfortable elaborating on it.
